GroceryAid will provide you with next steps dependent on the type of counselling you select.

  • One Session Therapy - removed does not show

Once your session is booked you will receive an information sheet in your inbox that will help you prepare for the session. It is important you complete and return this as this will enable Relate to check this is the right service for you.

One Session Therapy is funded by GroceryAid for couples only, except for the menopause therapy which can be accessed via one session therapy, when you complete the form for Relate please mention you would like to talk about menopause.

  • Sex Therapy - removed does not show

Once you've made an appointment with your local Relate you'll be seen by a sex therapist who will listen sensitively to your description of the problem and undertake an initial assessment.

If at this stage sex therapy is considered appropriate, you will start to see your therapist on a weekly to fortnightly basis. All of the work you do in the therapy room is based on talking, however, you are also given homework to do in the privacy of your own home.

Clients are often amazed at the progress they make and how well they get on with their therapist, once they are over the initial nervousness at talking frankly about their sex life.

In some parts of the country, sex therapy is provided by individuals who are trained by us and work from their own premises rather than a Local Centre. It is important to note that Grocery Aid can provide funding for the first 6 sessions and if further sessions are recommended you will need to discuss with the Relate centre options for this.

  • Family Counselling

GroceryAid can provide Family Counselling for a widge range of situations, however, the applicant for this service must be the grocery employee and should be attending the counselling sessions.

  • Young People's Counselling

You can expect to be helped by a supportive and non-judgmental counsellor either at a local Relate Centre near your home, or online. They'll start off by undertaking an initial assessment to make sure Relate is a good fit for you. What you say is confidential unless the counsellor is worried about your safety.

Where more than one person holds parental responsibility, all parties must agree to the counselling referral being made.

  • Children's Counselling

Relate will always start off with what they call an initial assessment, which is basically how they gather information to find out what’s going on. The assessment will involve a conversation with the child’s parent/those with parental responsibility in the first instance, followed by a conversation with the child. Important matters such as confidentiality and explaining what happens during counselling will form part of the assessment. This assessment might show that Relate can offer your child the support they need, or it might result in referring your child elsewhere or offering some counselling to you, if that seems to be more helpful. If Relate do determine that we can offer support to your child, counselling might be offered face to face or via Zoom.

Where more than one person holds parental responsibility, all parties must agree to the counselling referral being made.
